Chinese Apps Red-Flagged by Indian Intelligence Agencies

Tensions between New Delhi and Beijing are at a high level after the recent confrontation in Ladakh, resulting in the death of at least 20 Indian soldiers. Today, Indian intelligence agencies have red-flagged at least 52 mobile apps that claim they are a threat to national security. After a serious assessment, he asked the government to block these applications or advise people against their use. The apps are all connected to China in one way or another.

According to the agencies, apps that include the likes of Ticketlock and Clean Master are sending large amounts of data to servers outside India. The recommendations of the agencies are reportedly supported by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). This is according to an ‘unknown government official’ quoted by Hindustan Times. The official told the publication that NSCS also believed that these apps could compromise national security.

However, the report states that the government cannot rush into blacklisting so many apps at once. According to the official quoting the report, “recommendations are under discussion”. Apparently, the government will examine each app separately before deciding its future course of action.

The list of apps includes many categories from social media to shopping. These include blockbusters like TikTok, ShareIt, Xender, UC Browser, Clean Master, and more. It also includes Xiaomi’s Mi Store and Mi Community App. The list also includes apps from DU and Cheetah Mobile, which already have a history on the Play Store. Unexpectedly, Zoom is also on the list, with the Ministry of Home Affairs already warning about potential security concerns with the app. You can see the complete list of all the 52 Black Listed Apps below.
