Microsoft’s Dual-Screen Android Phone ‘Surface Duo’

Microsoft first revealed that it was making an Android phone, a dual-screen one at its Surface hardware event early last year. Now, after teasing the device on social media in the last few weeks, Microsoft has officially launched the much-awaited Surface Duo today. This exorbitant comes with a price of $ 1,399 (~ Rs. 1,04,999) and will start from September 10.

Microsoft Duo: Specs and Features

The Redmond giant initially planned to launch the Surface Duo later this year during the holiday season. It seems to have been launched to deliver what it considers to be the next-gen have ‘mobile productivity’ experience.

“The Surface Duo is the easiest way to multitask, bringing together the full ecosystem of Microsoft 365 experiences and Android mobile apps,” said an official Microsoft blog post. The company has shared only the specifications and features in the blog post, but we already have a good idea about it.

Microsoft Surface Duo Camera Feat.

The main attraction of the Surface Duo is two 5.6-inch screens, which are connected to a 360-degree hinge. These are AMOLED panels with a 4: 3 aspect ratio and 1800 x 1350-pixel resolution. You can clearly see huge bezels above and below these displays.

When opened, the Surface Duo offers you an 8.1-inch Sense PixelSense Fusion Display ‘with a 3: 2 aspect ratio and 2700 x 1800-pixel resolution. Microsoft claims that the device is just 4.8 mm thick when opened, making it the thinnest surface device ever. It weighs around 250 grams as compared to traditional phones.

Surface Couple Phones Announced by Microsoft

The Surface Duo looks absolutely stunning and minimal in its closed state. There is no camera outside to marry the White Glacier White’s surface (for the purpose!). You only got one 11MP sensor above the display on the right. The 360-degree hinge is going to enable you to use both the rear and the selfie camera.

Under the hood, the device is powered by last year’s Snapdragon 855 chipset (not even Snapdragon 865) and includes a 3,460mAh battery pack with 6GB RAM, 256GB built-in storage and 184 fast-charging support. Microsoft is yet to confirm the internal specs but when they are released we will double-check it and update the article to reflect any changes.

For the software experience, the Surface Duo runs Android 10 out-of-the-box but has been tweaked to meet the needs of a dual-screen experience. It has Microsoft Launcher on top, plus special features with gestures to run two apps interchangeably, extend the app to use two screens, and quickly move apps between two screens.
