Apple to Manufacture iPhone 12 in Bangalore

Apple has recently started manufacturing the iPhone 11 in India. However, now a new report states that the company will also make its 2020 flagship, the iPhone 12 in the country. The Business Standard report claimed that Apple is investing huge sums of money at its Bengaluru plant for this process. It is according to recent reports that Vistron, one of Apple’s manufacturing partners, is hiring 10,000 new employees for its plant in Karnataka.

All this is very good news for the country’s Make in India initiative. With Apple building its flagship iPhone in India, we can expect the new iPhone to be relatively more affordable than the iPhone 11.

As a quick refresher, the iPhone 11 was cheaper at launch than the iPhone XR in India. However, since Apple is bringing the iPhone 12 to India in India, it is likely that the iPhone 12 will be priced significantly lower than the iPhone 11 as it will avoid import duties.

Obviously, this is something we have yet to see. However, reducing the price of iPhone in India will prove beneficial for Apple. The country’s smartphone market may be large (with slow growth), but people don’t buy iPhones only because of high prices, especially when compared to iPhone prices in the US and elsewhere.

This year, Apple’s four new iPhone models are expected to be launched in varying screen sizes from 5.4-inch to 6.7-inch. The company has already confirmed the delay in the iPhone 12 launch, but we are expecting the phone to be unveiled in October.
