Along with the Galaxy Note 20 series, Samsung has also launched a successor to its first foldable phone – the Galaxy Fold. It has received a minor name change to conform to the Galaxy Z Flip branding and is called the Galaxy Z Fold 2. While the core design remains the same, the company has made some much-needed changes such as a larger bezel-less display, less intrusion, and better durability.

Galaxy Z Fold 2: Specs and Features
Display
While Samsung unveiled a clamshell foldable phone earlier this year, Korean giants are not paying attention to its original tablet-style foldable phone design. The second-gen Galaxy Fold boasts the exact same core design as its predecessor, which makes a phone appear on a tablet. Samsung may have improved the hinge design by adding brushes and caps to the mince to prevent smaller gears from entering the complex gear mechanism.
The most requested change – the large bezel-less display will have to become the highlight and sensible factor of the Galaxy Z fold. The first-gen Galaxy Fold came with a small external display with massive bezels while the inside display was a selfie camera on the top right and a large lip for the sensor.
Galaxy z fold 2 display
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 features a 7.6-inch QXGA + flexible AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which is amazing. The panel has a 2213 x 1689-pixel resolution and a punch-hole cutout in the top right instead of an awkward lip, which is great.
However, it is the external display that gives the Galaxy Z Fold 2 a completely new and futuristic vibe. It now extends from edge to edge and spans 6.2-inches. The company has baked a full-HD + (2400 x 1080-pixel) Super AMOLED display, also with a punch-hole selfie camera, on the outside.
Internals
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 865+ chipset – similar to the Galaxy Note 20 lineup and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G that debuted only a few weeks ago. You will get Snapdragon X55 modem onboard for 5G connectivity and download speeds up to 2.0Gbps. The chipset is paired with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 built-in storage. This foldable phone runs OneUI 2.1 based on Android 10.
Camera
As you can see in the title, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with five cameras in tow. It has one camera less than its predecessor. You still have a triple camera system on the rear, a punch-hole selfie camera on the inside, and one on the outside – even in the punch-hole cutout.
Both punch-hole cutouts have a 10MP (f / 2.2) selfie camera, allowing you to take pictures of yourself whether the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has surfaced. The triple camera system on the rear includes the same camera system as the Vanilla Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy S20. This means that you have a 12MP primary camera OIS, a 12MP ultra wide camera and a 64MP telephoto camera with 3x hybrid zoom on the rear.
So yes, Samsung’s high-end foldable phone also gives you a versatile camera experience. There is no corner cut in making this sub-$ 2,000 device.
Battery charging
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes equipped with a dual-cell 4,500Ah battery – a 2,250mAh pack on either side of the hinge. The device supports 25W fast-charging via a USB Type-C port at the bottom. It is not the fastest charging solution from there, but the job will be done.
This foldable phone also supports 15W wireless charging and 9W wireless power share (ie Samsung’s version of reverse wireless charging), which allows you to charge any other phone, Galaxy Buds Live and smartwatch among other things.
Price and Availability
The company has not yet revealed details of price and availability but promised more sharing in September. It will be available in two color variants – Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze.
