OnePlus Nord: Specs and Features Details
Design & Display
Bat right, I know you’re going to say that OnePlus Nord looks like a Rebranded Realme phone. This is exactly how I feel. It looks exactly like Realme X3. There are dual-cam punch-holes on the front and vertical quad-camera arrays on the rear. The biggest differentiator is the placement of fingerprint sensors. It is available on the right edge and doubles as a power button on the Realme X3. While the OnePlus Nord has an in-display fingerprint sensor. The alert slider is present on the right.
For the front, the OnePlus Nord features a 6.44-inch full-HD + fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch response rate. The panel has a 20: 9 aspect ratio, 2400 x 1080 pixel resolution, sRGB support at the top, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Dual Selfie Camera
You may have already seen the dual-camera punch-hole cutout on the left. The OnePlus Nord comes with a 105-degree FOV in a punch-hole with a primary 32MP Sony IMX616 sensor and a secondary 8MP ultra-wide camera. This is exactly the same selfie camera system as the Realme X3 SuperZoom which was launched in India last month.
OnePlus Nord is the company’s first smartphone with a dual selfie camera.
Snapdragon 765G + 5G Support
OnePlus has already confirmed that its first mid-range phone in five years will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chip. It is a 5G-capable chipset launched with the Snapdragon 865, the flagship of the OnePlus 8. The Snapdragon 765G integrates the Snapdragon X52 modem, providing download speeds of up to 3.38Gbps on a 5GB network.
The chipset is paired with LPDDR4x RAM up to 12GB and built-in storage up to 256GB. And this is where OnePlus has cut some corners. You will not find UFS 3.0 storage much faster here. The Nord instead comes with UFS 2.1 storage, which is a bit disappointing.
OxygenOS 10.5
One of the things OnePlus is known for is its fluid software experience. It brings the best of both worlds – useful add-on features for users through Vanilla Android and OxygenOS. OnePlus Nord is supported by OxygenOS 10.5 based on Android 10 out-of-the-box.
However, the biggest change here would be OnePlus’ decision to dig up its own phone and messaging app in favor of Google’s stock options. On the Nord, you have Google Duo pre-installed. It will be eligible for two years of software updates (up to Android 12) and three years of security updates as per the company’s claims.
48MP Quad Rear Cameras
The camera counts in the more affordable price segment. The OnePlus Nord makes its debut with a quad-camera array on the rear. It is overwhelmed with the exact same 48MP (f / 1.75) Sony IMX586 sensor that you will find in the flagship OnePlus 8. It will be a relief to many that the primary camera supports OIS as well as EIS so that the video can be improved. Stability. Your nightscape pictures will also see an improvement, thanks to this valuable addition to your Middle Ranger.
The primary sensor is paired with an 8MP ultra-wide camera with 119-degree FOV, 5MP depth sensor, and 2MP macro camera. It seems that later the camera count jumped. Macro cameras can be fun, but we have already seen that the 2MP macro camera in OnePlus 8 is not the best in the market. There is a dual-LED flash next to the vertical array.
For camera features, the OnePlus Nord can capture videos up to 4K @ 30FPS, Super Slow-Motion Video 1080p @ 240FPS, Pro Mode, RAW Image Capture, Portrait (or Bokeh) mode and more.
Battery & Warp Charging
The presence of a high refresh rate display and 5G support make the battery an important factor for users. The OnePlus Nord is equipped with a modest 4,115mAh battery pack, which is onboard with 30p fast charging support.
It is slightly smaller than the battery in OnePlus 8. The 30W charging speed is the same though. The company claims that you can charge the phone from 0% to 70% in about 30 minutes. Of course, it extracts juice from the bottom of the USB Type-C port.
IP Rating
This is one of the areas where OnePlus has cut corners to keep the price down. OnePlus Nord does not have an official IP rating. In an interview, co-founder Carl Pei revealed that you have a rubber gasket around ports and other precautions to help you survive 30 meters of water for 30 seconds.
This means that the Nord can easily spread and handle some light rain. However, we suggest that you take this phone with you to the pool.
