Anti-China sentiments in India have prompted some indie developers in the country to come up with new solutions that may help netizens reduce their dependence on Chinese products. Following the success of Remove China Apps (which was sourced from the Play Store), an app exists that lets you check if a product has been made in India.
‘Aptly name Made in India‘, Noida-based developers Mohit Jain and Akshay Tank came up with the app idea. It is available in both English and Hindi. Developers claim that the app can identify products manufactured in more than 115 countries.
“Now scan the product through the barcode to find the original origin country of your product. This free application provides an opportunity for those who want to support and promote local products, ”reads the app listing.
It works just as it says. The app will show you the country of origin of a brand, even if the company makes products in India. However, to test his claims, I scanned the barcode of the Redmi Note 9 Pro made in India and the app found that it originated from China.
Also, apart from smartphones, I tested it with a variety of products at my home, from Godrej’s Good Night Express System Liquid Wrapper to Britannia’s Good Day Cashew Cookies. The app correctly detected the country every time I tested it. Shown below is whether or not this app detects an Indian product:
So, if you want to put your full force behind the #BoycottChineseProducts campaign, this app will come in super handy to help you switch Indian products. You can only curb your curiosity and get to know the country of origin of the products you have been using for years.
